Crassus Agonicus
Hilda Hilst

A digital project, part of Inverted Circle
  • Hilda Hilst (1930–2004) is widely recognized as one of the most important lusophone authors of the twentieth century. Born in the state of São Paulo, Hilst obtained a law degree from the University of São Paulo in 1952 and, a few years later, moved to a small family estate; for the rest of her days, she lived in near seclusion and devoted herself to literature. Hilst published more than fifty works of poetry, fiction, and theater.
“Crassus Agonicus” was published with the permission of Instituto Hilda Hilst, whose website contains additional information about the author and her work. The work was produced by Triple Canopy as part of its Immaterial Literature project area, which receives support from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, the Brown Foundation, Inc., of Houston, the Lambent Foundation Fund of Tides Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and the New York State Council on the Arts.
