The journal is called Telephone, like the children's game in which phrases change as they're whispered from one person to the next. Each issue features four to five poems from one foreign poet, which are then translated roughly ten times by multiple poets and translators. There are no rules about how each poem should be translated. Issue 1 features German poet Uljana Wolf; this release party includes readings by Mary Jo Bang, Priscilla Becker, Susan Bernofsky, Robert Fitterman, John Gallaher, Christian Hawkey, Eugene Ostashevsky, Nathaniel Otting, and others.
