For more than thirty years, Ralph Lemon, a choreographer, writer, and visual artist, has been a radical, multidimensional figure in contemporary performance. Lemon’s works, which are complex yet inviting, consider embodiment, memory, aesthetic practice, and race with great nuance and precision. For its 2015 benefit, which honored Lemon, Triple Canopy published a booklet with cover art by Nicole Eisenman and contributions by Brent Hayes Edwards, Lizzie Feidelson, Malik Gaines, James Hannaham, Jenn Joy, and Okwui Okpokwasili. They reflect on various iterations of Lemon’s Scaffold Room, which was performed at the Kitchen in October and November 2015. (Scaffold Room was produced by Cross Performance Inc. and MAPP International Productions, and at the Kitchen was curated and organized by Tim Griffin and Matthew Lyons.)
